Dr Karolina Tetłak is assistant professor in tax law at the Faculty of Law and Administration at Warsaw University .
She is also associated with the Centre for International Sports Law at Staffordshire University,
UK and Thompson Rivers University,
Canada.
In her academic work,
Karolina is interested in Polish,
international,
comparative and European tax law.
She specializes in sports fiscal law, taxation of athletes and tax treatment of sports events.
She is also interested in tax design and discrimination.
She has been awarded a PhD with distinction for a thesis on income taxation of athletes participating in major international sports events.
The research was supported by FIFA under the João Havelange Research Program.
Karolina graduated from the LL.M.
program in Taxation at Harvard Law School and received her law degree summa cum laude from Warsaw University,
where she ranked second among the 2006 alumni.
In 2008 she completed the Postgraduate Studies in Taxes and Tax Law at Warsaw University.
In 2005 she was awarded a Diploma in Legal Studies with Distinction at Cardiff Law School,
UK.
She also studied in Germany at the Katholische Universität Eichstätt-Ingolstadt.
She is an alumna of the Center for Creating Leaders „Kuźnia” in Katowice.
Karolina was awarded numerous prizes and scholarships,
e.g.
by Harvard University,
Warsaw University,
FIFA,
Polish Ministry of National Education and Ministry of Science and Higher Education.
She received the Ernst Mach Research Grant financed by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Science and Research to support her research at the University of Business Administration in Vienna.
She was also awarded the Erasmus scholarship and a grant funded by Jagiellonian University Professor Bolesław Ginter.
She received the European Academic Tax Thesis Award 2007 for her master thesis on Tax Discrimination of Personally Performed Services - Chosen Comparative Aspects,
written in Polish.
She participates in numerous seminars and conferences worldwide.
She has authored and co-authored many works on tax law,
published in Poland and abroad.
She regularly writes for the journal Highlights & Insights on European Taxation published by WoltersKluwer.
She is an expert of the Consultative Council on Tax Law to the Minister of Finance and expert of the International Taxation of Entertainment Group.
Karolina gained expertise and practical experience in tax law at the Warsaw offices of Weil,
Gotshal & Manges and PricewaterhouseCoopers.
She speaks Polish,
English,
German,
Italian and French.
